If you feel safe and loved, your brain becomes specialized in exploration, play, and cooperation. If you are frightened and unwanted, it becomes specialized at managing feelings of fear and abandonment

Individual Therapy with Adults and Teens

In my individual work with adults, I have experience and enjoy working with individuals struggling with a variety of problems including depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, transitions to college and adulthood, body image, and adjustment-related difficulties. I have worked with acute trauma in both disaster-affected populations and immediately following traumatic events, as well as treating problems that arise from the long-term effects of trauma, including childhood physical and sexual abuse, and neglect.

With adolescents, I employ a model of relational empowerment that encourages personal responsibility as well as exploration of the issues around the transition to adulthood.  I often take walks during my sessions with teenagers to move out of the box of traditional, often intimidating, face-to-face therapy.

I believe strongly in engaging parents in the treatment of their children, and focus on implementing at-home interventions and parent guidance as an adjunct tool to my individual work with children. I try to work creatively with children and their parents to find techniques that will work for the unique needs of each family, and create lasting change within the family system.

Relationship Therapy

I work with couples presenting with a variety of relationship issues.  My experience includes preparation for marriage and preparation for starting a family, navigating infidelity, and improving communication.  I welcome couples from the LGBTQ+ community to my practice, as well as clients in poly relationships, and am kink affirming.

Gender Identity

I welcome clients of all genders to my practice.

I have experience working with gender variance across all age groups. With adults, I am available to explore the variety of issues that can arise related to gender, including the intersections of gender and race, social isolation, family issues, and discrimination in the community and workplace.  For those considering medical transition, I offer clinical evaluation and letters for hormone treatment and surgical transition. I often work with my client’s families and partners to prepare for changes in relationships, and exploratory therapy to address anxiety and stressors that may arise during transition.

I provide a confidential space for young people who are questioning their gender identity as well. I believe that when possible, it is important to incorporate family and community supports, including schools, in the treatment of children and teens who are ready to more openly express their gender variance.
